Hello,
I am actually a pilates and aerobics instructor, and new to the forums and all, straight from Northern Virginia! I am glad to be here- a bit frazzled and confused, but glad. I stumbled on this forum because I have some pretty bad computer problems. I'm not sure what's up, but hopefully, I'll hear from someone who might be able to help and "dumb down that answer" for lack of a better description! It's my birthday next week, so hopefully, I'll have an answer as my birthday gift! Thanks! D Ross |

Hi dross1149
I'm sure you'll get all the help you need. The Malware Team are all pretty busy with private lives/jobs so please be patient. Meanwhile, have a good look around the forum, there's lots to read and learn Have a great birthday next week, whatever the state of your PC. Regards Satchfan |

QUOTE Ok, I will admit I QUOTE Oh- and I've had this laptop since 2003, I believe, and nearly all the memory is used up except the last 5 gigs. And I did a defrag for the first time in like 2 years. Ok, that's all I have to confess I just love all the "confessing"... it's like you already know what you're doing wrong! Once you're certified clean of malware from the Staff there, be sure to pop on around and we'll formulate a game plan to help clean you up a bit. I can't imagine your poor hard drive! Cheers, and welcome to the forum. Troy |

Hey Troy. Nice to see you here. Anyway, how about we clean you up a bit?
You need Windows 7 RC, instead of Beta, because after all the beta expires soon. Then, Ubuntu 8.10 should now be upgraded to 9.04. |

Ok, thanks. So I really have to choose a Linux OS or a Windows OS, correct? If so, I just would go to either website and install? If so, would everything I have save, and would all that data be available to work on when I'm going back and forth between other OS? Thanks! |

Dross
QUOTE So I really have to choose a Linux OS or a Windows OS, correct? No. You do not have to do that. I believe that Dragonmaster Jay was directing that comment to Troy. Have a look at Troys profile below his avatar picture. Troy lists: Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Windows XP Home SP3, Windows 7 Beta, Ubuntu 8.10 ___________________ Dragonmaster Jay was pointing out to Troy that "updates" are available for Windows 7 beta --- Windows 7 RC and Ubuntu 8.10 --- Ubuntu 9.04 These are simply different Operating Systems that some of our Members optionally chose to run. ______________________ You are just fine with your Windows XP which is a good operating system and will continue to be supported for many more years. Sorry you apparently got confused by a little "side-chatter" between a couple of friendly helpers. Best Regards |

Hello Dragonmaster Jay,
I'm not raining on your parade. Just offering clarification to dross1149, same way that Essexboy did. _________________ Though we risk confusing the original poster of a thread, in this case dross1149, sometimes a little "side-chatter" can be a good thing, and conveys interesting tidbits of information and a friendly, lively environment. It's just a good practice to "address" the comment to the correct Member in the Thread, (in this case, to Troy) and provide clarification if you accidentally confuse the original poster. Probably should avoid "chatter" in strictly "help" threads like Windows and Hardware, but here in Meet and Greet is a good place to present how friendly we can be. No harm - no foul. Doug |

It's all good. I feel like I'm in with the "in crowd" now- thanks for the clarification!

Yay for off-topicness!
You are certainly part of the "gang" now here at WTT... It's a general rule of thumb - if a thread isn't taken "off-topic" (i.e. banter takes the original topic off-track), then it dies pretty quickly and gets boring. DragonMaster Jay, you have pointed out that which I haven't updated! I'll update my information here on the forums so that everyone knows what I actually am running... |

Fixed now, this is actually what I am running. I gave Ubuntu the boot a long time ago!
