Hello everyone! I have a PC that is running like a junk atm. Here is the original thread in the welcome forums with links to the PC Pitstop results and replies from Doug. He suggested I move the thread here in the hopes that some of you may help me resolve these issues and make the PC work more efficiently. Any help is greatly appreciated. My current mood is pullhair.gif

Here is the link to the original thread. http://forums.whatthetech.com/Hello_everyo...tml#entry566660

Right now the PC is experiencing heavy CPU Usage beyond expected.

Here is a PC Pitstop scan of my PC currently. http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/sec.asp?conid=22244124

I do occassionally get a BSoD error when I try to run any registry checker there error is as follows...

REGISTRY ERROR

Stop: 0x00000051 (0x00000004, 0x00000001, 0xE303BA28, 0x000801E0)

I think that is a seperate issue from the lagging PC but I'd appreciate help with both...especially the lag...Also my internet keeps dropping out on me intermittenly. I need to refresh the connection on my D-link DWA 552 Ethernet adapter. I think that could be the reason for the low performance. If there's any other tests I can run please advise. Thank you in advance for your reply.

I recently downloaded Process Explorer to find a little more detail and my CPU usage is mostly as follows:
CPU - 35%
Hardware Interupts - 15%
Deferrerd Procedure Calls - 40-50% typically
There are a few other processes taking up small amounts that equal up to 100%.....I hope that helps a little more for you to better get a grasp on this PC.

Cheers

Hello Chicoman

I have noticed in your PCPitstop results that you have 2 versions of Hijackthis, One version is updated which looks like you got from here, and the other is an
older version that you downloaded (Hijackthis 1.99.1) on 7/10/08,

  1. Has this machine been infected before?

  2. Have you used HijackThis by yourself to remove anything?

I have also noticed that you have LimeWire v5.1.2 and you may be aware that Peer to peer software is one of the largest sources of malware.

You also do not have a competent AntiVirus program,
Here is a list of some free and evaluation versions to try:[list] AVG AntiVirus
Avast Antivirus Home Version--Free
Antivir Personal - Free
Clamwin Free Antivirus

It is important that we know if you have edited the registry by using HijackThis.

Best Regards,

I have used HijackThis in the past. I've never had a problem with my until a week or so ago and it's really boggin down. I haven't edited the registry since the problem occurred if that's any help. Sorry I can't be more specific....still holding out hope you can help me out.

Hi again Chicoman

As you may have noticed there is some reporting of Hardware from your PCPitstop Full Test Results that almost cannot possibly be correct.
As I have found the PCPitstop Full Tests quite reliable for nearly 5 years, I can't help but suspect that there are matters of configuration on your machine that are the cause. I do recognize that there are specific machine characteristics that the Pit Test has some difficulty with (for instance RAID Array Hard Drives) and to a limited extent some 64 bit OS and related drivers, but lets get a second look.

Please download Everest 4.6 from here:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/07/f...for-activation/

You will need to register at this "German Language" site, and will be give a legitimate activation key (for free)
Further down the page you will see:
QUOTE
Users can then download the Everest Ultimate Edition 4.6 via the link here. Users can key in the license key when they are prompted to do so.

Please download and Run Everest 4.6
in the Results please navigate to "Computer - Summary"
In the command line at the top, please select Reports - plain text
Save and the file and then upload it to your next reply here in this thread.
It will give us an additional view of your CPU and RAM to confirm or explain the results we see in the Pit Test.

That specific Quick report will not reveal any proprietary information about your machine.
But please do not post any other of the test results without being asked to do so.

Best Regards

Doug thanks for getting back to me. I ran the latest report as you've requested. I hope this helps to shed some insight onto the problems this PC is having atm. Thank you for all your efforts to help me get this PC working properly.

Attached below is the textfile for Everest

Hi Chicoman,

I am at a loss with the reporting of some of your information from both the Pit Test and Everest.
The confusion is related to "(TRIAL VERSION)" at various locations in your Everest Summary.
I was initially confused because, while the Pit Test described and your problem description included that machine resources were low or slow functioning, the Pit Test showed that you had 8 gigs of RAM (unlikely) and that RAM was limited (even more unlikely if you actually had 8 gigs RAM)

The "(TRIAL VERSION)" notation "could" be related to having installed the 120 day trial of System Management Server, or having had your Operating system, patches, service packs or updates installed with benefit from that utility.
If so, an expired Trial Version may be throwing off several other features of reporting.

Maybe we can see what is installed by using your Everest - Software - Quick Report.
That will list all of the software presently installed on your machine and we will be able to see if any of the items are of the potentially offending "(Trial Version)"

Please post Everest - Software - Quick Report (as plain text)
add it as an "Attached File" as you have already done with prior Quick Report.

Thanks.
