Hi, hopefully quick & easy question: is it ok to put in 4 sticks of 512mb memory into this board?

The manual really doesn't show this as an option, though it implies it. Had 2 - 512mb in 2 of the slots & bought another 2 for the other 2 slots, then trouble.

That is a good sign for your hardware.

In general anytime you change a motherboard you need to Format/Clean Install the OS.

If you are saying you cannot do so then try running KillDisk first:

Obviously at this point all data will be erased.
