This is what I feel like now. The problem is when using MP, I go to burn song or songs I want I get this msg. Please insert a blank disc in cd drive (E) once windows media player detects the new disc, it will automatically start burning.

But that the futher it goes, no responce, nadda that msg windows just stays up. Even the drive does not respond, something has control over it because you cannot do nothing till you hit cancle or click the red x to shut down the msg, once you do that you gain control over the drive again. Tryed rebooting but that does not help, the current vers is MP 11 and the system is win xp. Any Ideas??

Have you successfully burned a disc with any other program? The drive may just be failing.

Yes the drives are new and have been burning in the past, I am the sound tech at the church I attend and we use a lot of cd's to sing alone with, this is why I burn the line up list to cut down of changing out cd's in our unit which we have a 5 disc changer but 1 cd saves time.

Any how yes, Nero will burn, Roxio will burn, use clone cd to copy cd's. Have a CDRW drive (E) and DVD/CDRW (F) drive for copying to speed up the process when burning or copying. Reason I dislike Nero or Roxio is because when burning a song list it burns it as a cda file, I like MP 11 because you can burn as MP3 format this is how I record the songs as.

I just reformatted my hd and have a clean copy of Windows XP Home and up to today it was buring but something has gone wrong, I looked and looked and just at a lost of what to do next or I must be over loooking something. Hech I even took mp 11 out and reinstalled it, again who knows with MS they way they are.

For the time to have a song list ready I went on a new machine I have set up to give to someone and MP 11 burned the song list, same type drive in that machine as in this one, heck I even changed it out just to be sure of the drive but same results.

Ok.. Here's what I would try.

Please read this Microsoft article about removing the upperfilter, and lowerfilter settings on your cd-rw drive:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Warning: You are about to be instructed how to modify your registry. Anytime a change to the registry is performed there may be undesirable consequences and it may prevent your computer from working at all.

Please read and perform one of the following methods to produce a backup of your registry BEFORE proceeding with any registry modifications.

How to backup the windows registry:

  1. Method 1: Using ERUNT (Preferred method)
    1. Using the third party software called ERUNT you can back up your registry and can also configure automated registry backups to help ensure your system's integrity. This is the preferred method to perform a registry backup and instructions can be found in the first portion of the following post: Read by clicking HERE.

  2. Method 2: Using System Restore
    1. Windows Vista
      1. Click Start, type systempropertiesprotection in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
      2. Wait for Windows to search for available disks and most recent restore points. In the System Properties dialog box, on the System Protection tab, click Create,
      3. Type a name for the restore point (preferably something recognizable you can easily go back to and find) and then click Create.
      4. After the restore point has been created successfully, click OK two times.
Note: If System Restore is turned off, click to select the local disk, click Apply and then click Create.
    2. Windows XP
      1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then click OK.
      2. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Create a restore point, and then click Next .
      3. On the Create a Restore Point page, type a name for the restore point (preferably something recognizable you can easily go back to and find) and then click Create.
      4. After the restore point has been created, click Close.
Note: If System Restore is turned off, you receive a message that asks whether you want to turn on System Restore now. Click Yes. Then, in the System Properties dialog box, click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box, click OK, and then repeat this step.

  3. Method 3: Using REGEDIT
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. In the Registry Editor, click File, click Export, choose a location to save the registry (Preferably on your desktop) and choose a name (Preferably using the date... i.e. regbackup012308.reg).
  4. Near the bottom of the window, in the Export Range box, click All, then click Save.

If you encounter any problems following these instructions, please STOP and report back here for assistance before continuing further. You may now continue with the instructed registry modifications.

I would recommed that you at least set a restore point before making these changes to the registry in case it breaks something. When you are finished removing these two entries, if present, reboot your computer and try burning a CD again with Media Player.

Lol... Well, the congregation could lay hands on the computer and pray for a miracle. I've found that is sometimes more effective. smile.gif

Progress, Wanted to let you know did not have time to try and fix the problem today, been nuts all day and not had a chance to sit down in front of my pc.

Before proceeding need to ask one question tho ?

I am running Nero, and Roxio with a program called Clone CD, as I said I was burning song list or songs before with all these programs installed on my pc and this was before I ended up formatting and reinstalling Windows XP SP3 with all the updated files last week, last thing installed was a hp printer C4400 but did not burn nothing till the other day and this is when I ran into this problem.

Wanted to know if I should go ahead of what you suggested ?

Back up the registry as instructed, and then perform the procedure. There is no harm in trying. You can always roll back the changes with a recovery point if you find that any of those products fail to work properly. Which is unlikely.

Matter of fact, if removing those entries in the registry does not fix the problem, roll back anyways just to make sure you don't run into any other problems. Its more of a test to see if it will fix your problem. If it doesn't, roll back, and you'll be back to the way you were before you made your changes.

EDIT: I take it that prayer and laying on of hands did not fix the problem? smile.gif I was serious about that by the way.
