Hi, I am new but honestly I have spent ages on my own trying to sort my problems out, a little help would go along way just at the moment .

Current Situation:
At this moment in time I have 2 additional MS office programs on my computer, in addition to the MS Office professional suite

2007, for which I have been unable to find anythinhg about and to what these relate to, but can only find reference as to how

to delete them. I would like to know if anyone knows what they are for? Do I need them to run other Office progs or can I

remove them, assuming they too, relate to the BCM program removed (see below). The unknown programs are
1) MS office 2007 Primary Interlop Assemblies
2) MS Office Small Business connectivity components.

or based on the following, should I format the computers and start again?

I have a new MSI Notebook (wireless) and HP desktop (not wireless),both running Windows XP home, regularily updated and

installed with disks 1, MS Office proffessional 2007 (I should have stopped there) but I also installed disk 2, MS office

Outlook with Business Contact Manager (BCM) as I had it and thought it would be useful.

However due to a friend's (who works in IT) attempted assistance in setting up my notebook computer wirelessly and making it

part of a home network as well as removing some old programs from my then perfectly working HP and making that part of a home

network,(which consists of 1 desktop, 2 laptops, 1 scanner etc, 1 printer scanner etc 1 printer and a Netgear wireless

router, link to cable broadband, external dvd/cd read/writer, external harddrive 500GB, plus blue tooth bits and blackberry)

I have spent weeks trying to sort and understand the problems on both computers ie the notebook still not connecting

wirelessly to the "Netgear" wireless router, both computers should be, but are not, running correctly as they are currently

setup on the router as Lan and physically connected via ethernet cables, and trying to sort out and understand problems

relating to a halfhearted attempted setup of a home network etc etc. As well as further problems on my HP, following the

incorrect procedure of uninstalling some old and obsolete programs,as well as the deletion of some required programs and

device drivers, plus my own inability to locate my older MS Office 2003 application disks which are apparently needed to

enable some old office 2003 programs to be removed.

I would concider and am kind of still considering formating both computers and starting again from scratch however my HP

recovery DVD (prepared a few years ago) is not working/readable, I do have a recovery disk for the notebook, both computers

came with windows XP home preinstalled and neither computer came with their own Windows XP home setup disks. At the moment

both computers have their legal and orginal Windows XP home installations.

In addition to this, the Office 2007 BCM program recently installed has now been uninstalled (as it really really slowed my

laptop down and was of no use to me at all), Following the un-installation I then had messages "SQL dumper installation

error" when I went into Outlook. Having spent loads of time and read loads of threads and I then figurered that I needed to

and did delete the 3 SQL programs which related to it, but had not been removed as part of the uninstall program, ie SQL

server etc. (cant recall the names, but all started SQL).

Finally, Initally my new notebook allocation of hard drive space seems to be ok with the assumption the smaller C drive would

hold the program files and D drive set to hold the data files, this is not the case, as having started loading data into "my

documents" etc, it is all being saved on the C drive and I am un sure how to change the system to allocate all the data files

to be saved on to the D Drive. The allocation is currently:

OS_Install (C:) Local drive Total space 39.0GB and 16.5GB currently free (42% free)
Local Disk (D:) Local drive Total space 68.8GB and 68.6GB currently free (ie unused)


My apologies but I did read the rules about only recording one topic at a time, but I didnt see how I could split the above

up without providing the rest of the information at the same time.

With regard to the rules, I now realise how computer illerate I am, could you please explain the following rules
1) What does the following mean: Please do not bump your log? & later "Whats meant by dont reply to your thread after you

have started a topic"?
3) What are combofix, Vundofix and HijackThis fixes?
4) By "Dont start more than one topic for one PC", does that mean if you have 3 PC's, you can have one topic for each PC or

you can only ever have one topic? And does that mean each topic needs to be listed, replied to and totally dealt with, before

another one is started?
5) If a general question its says use "Add Reply" in this thread not "new topic", I am confused because earlier it said not to add to other peoples topics - ie you have the same problem too etc,?
6) What does "Dont support Pirated/warez/cracked" mean
7) Does the bit about not responding within 7 days, mean if one/we puts a topic/post on the forum and you experts ask

something else or need more info etc, and we do not answere in 7 days the whole thread is deleted and we have to start the

topic again and it is all deleted?
8) Looking through the forum, How do I find the details I was directed to when i first came on the forum, (ie when stated

recorded all these things I didnt really understand), as I was going to check something I kind of recall about it taking or

not chasing a response for 5 days as you guys were busy and only did this in your spare time. But whanted to clarify this.

I really would appreciate some help, I have become extremily interested in our home computers and would greatly like to move

on and learn more and become much more involved, however, I now acknowledge I am not able to do this alone and therefore seek

your advice. Maybe one day my skills could also be helpful to others.

Hi Medina, welcome to the forums. I'm sorry for the delay in response to your post. I have some answers to the questions for you below. After reading through them, feel free to ask for further clarification if you don't understand anything. Then please put up a brief summary of the problems you are having and if you still need help with them. Your post makes little sense at the moment as it is written in a way that randomly includes information about other problems in between, and I find it quite confusing.

These rules apply to the Malware forums, where things work a little different than here. A "bump" is when you reply to your own topic to bring it to the top of the list again, thereby making it more "visible" in the chances you'll get a reply. The reason we ask not to bump your own post is because it is considered rude in forum etiquette. Of course, here in the tech forums, replying to your own post is perfectly fine if you are adding some further information to the topic, but once again, posting for the sole reason to create a "bump" is considered rude.

What about question 2?

These are specialised tools that may be used to remove a specific infection - again, only used in the malware forums. These tools should only ever be used under the expert guidance of a trained professional, as it is quite easy to use these tools to completely ruin your system. Once again, this does not apply here.

In other words, each computer should have its own topic. If you have 3 computers, with different problems on each one, then by all means you may have three topics. You are also able to have them at the same time.

If you come across someone else's thread and they seem to have the same problem as what you are experiencing, it is best still to start a new topic simply because while the symptoms may appear to be the same, it's possible the cause is entirely different. It really just comes down to courtesy toward the helper. If a helper all of a sudden has to start juggling multiple users in the one topic, it can get a bit confusing.

It means exactly that. If you are using software that you haven't obtained a legal license to use, then we will not help you. Unfortunately there are far too many people who try and get as much "free stuff" as possible, although exactly how "free" it ends up is debatable.

Once again this applies to the malware forum only. If you don't respond to the topic within 7 days we are lead to believe you have abandoned the topic, which once again is considered rude in forums etiquette. If you no longer require help, then a simple message will let the helper know not to waste any more of their time is appreciated. If something happens in real life and you are unable to respond within the time period, then you are able to send a PM (personal message) to the helper who will then reopen the topic for further assistance. Pretty much the only deleted posts are spam, or other extreme breaches of our Terms of Use.
