Earlier this week my PC was infected. Tremendous assistance was provided by my tech savior JPSHORTSTUFF who patiently walked me through sanitizing my system. Unfortunately, one nasty side effect of the infection still persists. I am unable to open any MS Office files. Even if I try to launch an MS Office app, a popup appears that seems to be trying to install the program again (as if it is not recognizing that the program is already installed). jpshortstuff recommended that I post this issue in this forum. You probably are familiar with and have seen this problem before but I was able to get a screen capture of the popup before installation (or whatever it was doing) continued and I cancelled the process. I look forward to any assistance that can be provided. Let me thank you in advance for your help. Mike |

The best thing to do here is to reinstall office if you have the disc.
If you don't have the installation media, you could try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Install it, and run it from your programs menu. Find the Microsoft Office 2007 entry and remove it. This is not guaranteed to work, and you may just have to reinstall the software. If you have purchased it, but it came preinstalled on your computer you will probably have to contact Microsoft for replacement media. |

Hi Appleoddity,
I will try what you suggested and post the results. This version was pre-installed on my PC so I will see about Microsoft assistance if all else fails. Thanks Mike |

My Office seems to be working now...and I did not even use the cleanup App!!
I know that I just did a Windows Update about 10 minutes ago that jpshortstuff suggested ...maybe that did the trick. I apologize for the false alarm (hopefully). but thank you so much for coming to my assistance. Mike |

Hi Mykl. When I originally saw your post I thought that this might only be a "one time" occurence, but it sounded as if it happened multiple times?
Sometimes Office does that. It will always do that, in my experience, if you install Office 2003 and Office 2007. Everytime you switch between the programs it will do that. |

Yes, it occurrred several times. I've tried to open an Office application or an application's file several times over the past week.
The last time I tried was yesterday-just after assitance in cleining my system (that's when I posted my initial message with screen capture in this forum). While waiting for a reply, I perforemd a Windows Update and since then, it seems to work fine. I don't know if the Updatewas the reason but I'm glad it's working now because my school smester just started! Thanks again. |
