FYI...

April 21, 2009 - "... Malwarebytes announced* that MBAM (as they refer to it) has removed its billionth infection. The announcement is on their blog* which also has instructions for removing some of the latest phony (they use the term "rogue") anti-malware programs such as Virus Sweeper, MalwareCleaner, ErrorFix, Malware Defender 2009 and RegFix Pro. The free version* of Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware removes malicious software. The paid version, prevents infections in the first place.
The problem with malware removal is that some malicious software defends itself very well. Once a computer gets infected, the malware tries to prevent the installation of anti-malware software, such as that from Malwarebytes. So, the classic response to a malware infection, installing software to remove the infection, may not be possible... get in the habit of making disk image backups..."
