I have contacted Linksys and trendmicro a few times. Trend says to have Linksys remove the Home network defender linksys says the WRT110 does not have a HND so as of now it's a case of he said she said both linksys and trend are pointing the finger at each other and it's not resolving my problem. I have also unpluged the linksys router and used the direct connection on the 2wire DSL modem with trend activated and every thing works just fine which leads me to believe that the conflict is between the Linksys router and Trend. I'm now wondering if anyone here at WTT has had this problem or maybe any tips of what to do. Winxp home sp2 UPDATE After having a thought I have uninstalled Trends firewall and rebooted the pc and tried getting to a webpage with no luck still recieving the Page cant be displayed error This post has been edited by shucky: Oct 3 2009, 03:25 PM |

The net connection will work if I don't have my Trendmicro A/V activated however as soon as I turn my trendmicro on my net connection is blocked somewhere and all I get is page can not be displayed. Not much else to say there. The problem is Trend Micro. Get rid of it. Ask for your money back, and use one of the many other fine, free alternatives. Now, I know you're going to ask why it works when you plug directly into the DSL modem. Well, thats easy, its a "different" network than the one presented to Trend when it is plugged into the Linksys. IPs, subnets, gateways, DNS servers, all different when you plug directly into the DSL modem. Call Trend, tell them to stop the finger pointing and get the problem resolved, or adios. Hope the fact that I don't like Trend Micro didn't color my response too much. |

As I have asked both trend and Linksys, why such a conflict when they (LINKSYS) has trend software on their router installation disk. I have given Linksys support the case number for my contact with trend and vice versa however for the time being this conflict isnt being resolved now is it. I've never had a prob with trend myself.

There isn't any conflict between the two.
There is a problem with Trend, and it is blocking the network that it sees when you are connected to the Linksys. Sounds like firewall mis-configuration to me. Either way, the ball lies in Trend's court. It isn't a Linksys problem. |

QUOTE Sounds like firewall mis-configuration to meThough I have disabled trends firewall from it's main console and its drivers from the Internet connection properties and still no luck. With the above said, trends firewall components should not've been running at all correct? |

Thats a tough question.
Those programs can get to be quite complicated. There are often several different components that work together and each has its own configuration. For example, Norton has a firewall, and it has "worm protection." They both interfere with network traffic, and both need to be disabled to fix problems at times. The only sure way is to uninstall the product all together and see if it fixes your problem. Because you have already tried uninstalling or disabling the product all together, there is absolutely no doubt the problem is with that product. The configuration part is up to you. |

Yes I do know that something is blocking the connection but the question is WHAT/WHERE is it. with asking that, I have disabled firewalls and their components all the way around still with no luck. If it wasnt for my TIVO settop box I wouldnt need a wireless router hints ( the tivo uses the wireless connection to update its EPG).

What version of Trend Micro are you running?
You've already said that you somehow disabled the product and things work when it is disabled. So, logically, the best approach now is to disable each individual component until the internet starts working. When you identify which component is causing the problem, you can check the settings on that component and narrow down what I causing the issue. |

Shucky, I have suggested to you that the firewall component is not the problem.
Logic has it that if you completely "disable" trend Micro and the problem is resolved, then a component (any component) of Trend Micro is causing the problem. Disabling various components one at a time will identify which component is causing the issue. Only you know what procedure you are using to "disable" trend and verify that the problem is resolved. Along those same lines you should be able to disable other individual components. |
