Hi
just got a new computer, have everything working fine on it. but since a few days the IE seems to be acting up, its really strange too because I don't even use IE i use Firefox. its just randomly opening pages, randomly playing video files that I haven't even started, telling me about its tabs being closed, and finally shutting down on its own and then presenting me with the issue that it unexpectedly shut down and I didn't even start it. Bit weird, I don't remember downloading anything suspicious, but I could be wrong. Help would be much appriciated seems like I can't attached my hijack this log so I'll just paste it Thank you Noble HiJack This Log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 4:54:05 AM, on 22/10/2009 Platform: Windows Vista SP1 (WinNT 6.00.1905) MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18828) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Gadwin Systems\PrintScreen\PrintScreen.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\VirtuaWin\VirtuaWin.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Sony Corporation\SmartWi Connection Utility\CCP.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\ISB Utility\ISBMgr.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Brother\Brmfcmon\BrMfcWnd.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\NetWorx\networx.exe C:\Program Files\Sony Corporation\SmartWi Connection Utility\PowerManager.exe C:\Program Files\Sony Corporation\SmartWi Connection Utility\ThirdPartyAppMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Sony Corporation\SmartWi Connection Utility\UIManager.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\VirtuaWin\modules\WinList.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - Hi Noble13,
My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
Download TFC to your desktop
Then Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment. |

Noble13,
Please download the OTM by OldTimer.
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post. Now please tell me how things are running. |

Noble13,
Not a problem. Based on that, Log looks good You need to create a new Clean restore point:
Remove all previous Restore Points Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste cleanmgr You may be asked to choose drive. Choose C: At top, click on More Options tab. Click Clean up... button in the System Restore box. Click on Yes button. When finished, click on Cancel button to exit. Double-click My Computer. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options. Click the View tab. Check "Hide file extensions for known file types." Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders." Check "Hide protected operating system files." Click Apply, and then click OK. Cleanup
The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing. Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein. I would also suggest you read this: So how did I get infected in the first place? by Tony Klein Also: "How to prevent malware" by miekiemoes Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved. |
