I have a laptop that uses Windows XP and it is right now almost unable. It started about a couple of weeks ago when we would get a error message saying that 'GoogleUpdater.exe unexpectedly had to close, sorry for any inconvienience.' We did not know what this file was doing so we thought it was okay and pressed the 'Don't send report' button. (By the way, i do sometimes use Google Chrome as my internet and other times I would use Internet Explorer if that changes anything.)

About a week later the laptop started randomly playing commercials like some eye drops commercials or glade plugin commercials without the internet or any other type of media player up. There would be no video, just the voices of the commercials. I, at that point, uninstalled Google chrome and most of my Google apps as well as some of my other unused programs.

Four days later (three days ago), I'm still getting the 'GoogleUpdater' message but once I hit the 'Don't send report' button, the laptop would just freeze.

The next day, I get this message during startup saying that 'C\windows\system32\services.exe has issued a shutdown in order to keep your info safe' or something along that line and it would 60 secs to save any files. Sometimes it would shutdown and reboot, others it freezes and locks up on me.

By now I'm going into safe mode and trying any virus scanners I have which is few since I don't have any internet access with my laptop. All but once my scanners would be closed before it got half way through the scan, but one time it was able to complete the scan. It told me it detected the following: 'EXP/ASF.GetCodec.Gen' 'TR/Crypt.ZPACK.Gen' and 'TR/Agent.FV.17.' In order to get rid of them though, I had to upgrade the software which requires internet access. What are these, how bad are they to my laptop, how did I possibly get them and most importantly, how do I get rid of them? Also, if worse comes to worse, would reseting my Laptop with system restore help change anything, if it would let me?
Thanks for your time
