Hi

When I Start up my computer the Vista Welcoming sounds are making crackling noises. I rang technical support and they suggested that start-up programs & applications maybe conflicting & I should disable these using MSConfig. To me this sounds like rubbish, plus this is the second thing that has gone wrong with this computer which is only 8, 9 months old. What should I do because it's a hassle not having a computer the last time I had to ship it back to them?

I wouldn't go as far as saying they are talking rubbish, but I share your doubts over their suggestion, so lets try a very simple and quick thing to see if it resolves this.
You have 2 options, go to the makers site, and download the latest audio drivers, install them, and make sure you do it by right clicking on the downloaded file and select to run as admin, then see what happens, if your unsure about that then click on Start - Control Panel - Device Manager, locate your audio drivers by expanding that section of your hardware list, also while there note if any conflicts are showing.

Once you have the audio section expanded right click on each audio entry and select uninstall, when your prompted to reboot say no, repeat this until all audio entry's are gone, BUT, that said there may be entry's that do not offer this option, that is fine, just move to the next one, once all that can be removed are, reboot the system, then allow the system to auto install the drivers again, just let the system do it, my hope is doing this by either method will re-associate the settings and start it working right again, if not report back and we will look deeper.

Hi 8210GUY

I un-installed both the • Intel® High Definition Audio HDMI & •Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers, re-booted the machine & it automatically installed •Microsofts High Definition Audio Device twice. I havent started up the computer yet to check the sound & I am concerned that there are two of the same divices minus the Realtek Driver.

I will let you know how it sounds when I get home to my computer.

Hi, there is nothing to worry about, the system will install what it needs to work generally speaking, you never know that may of been why you were having the issue, just fire up the beast and see how it goes, it certainly can't cause any damage, it will either work, or not work, thats it, so there is no need to worry IMHO.

Thats good to hear then, looks like it was a conflict between the drivers then, allowing windows to install items itself can be a mistake, but when you do a process like this, the driver is already in the system, it just gets it and installs it, but the main thing is you have sorted the issue.
