This computer is continually getting slower and slower. I think it is because of the 2 error messages I get during boot up. The first is a message box that reads:

C:\Program Files\NOS\bin\getPlus_HelperSvc.exe
Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\NOS\bin\getPlus_HelperSvc.exe".Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

After clicking OK in this message box, the computer continues to boot. After a few seconds, a second message box is displayed. It reads:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.

I have selected both Yes and No and cannot see any difference in the performance of the computer.

It seems like this may be associated to an HSN Shopping Bar that was previously installed. However the Shopping bar is not displayed in either Internet Explorer or Firefox.

I tried to remove the HSN bar using Add and Remove programs. However when I did this, I received the message:

Error loading C:\Program~1\HSN\bar\2.bin\hsnbar.dll
The specified module could not be found.

please do the following


Download TFC to your desktop

• Close any open windows.
• Double click the TFC icon to run the program
• TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,
• Click the Start button to begin the process.
• Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.
• The program should not take long to finish it's job
• Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,
• if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean

It's normal after running TFC cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

NEXT

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

• Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- very important
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Run an on-line scan with Kaspersky

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky On-line Scanner

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:

• Close any open programs
• Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

3. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take several minutes.

• Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
• Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
• Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.

CatByte, thanks for your help. I did as you suggested - I ran TFC and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. After I ran Mbam I rebooted my computer and am still getting the 2 messages reported in my first post and the computer has not increased in speed .

Can you please advise if you were able to successfully remove the programs from Add/Remove programs.

Please advise how your computer is running now and if there are any outstanding issues.

After doing all you suggested 2 problems are still present.

When I boot up the machine I still get the following error message:

C:\Program Files\NOS\bin\getPlus_HelperSvc.exe
Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\NOS\bin\getPlus_HelperSvc.exe".Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

Secondly, when I start Firefox, it takes 7 minutes for Firefox to complete its startup.

Then when I go to my game site, Pogo.com, the game moves really slow.

Also, I could not remove the HSN bar using Add and Remove programs. Still when I tried to do this, I received the message:

Error loading C:\Program~1\HSN\bar\2.bin\hsnbar.dll
The specified module could not be found.

Overall the machine is still too slow, taking minutes to start programs like Microsoft Word, QuickTime and Nero just to name 3.

I am at my wits end.

Free for Home Users

• Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
• An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
• If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
• Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
• Click the Scanning Control tab.
• Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
  
  Close browsers before scanning
  Scan for tracking cookies.
  Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
• Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.
• Now reboot into Safe Mode: How to enter safe mode
• Using the F8 Method
• Restart your computer.
• When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with an Advanced Options menu.
• Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
• Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
• Perform the scan...Launch the program
  
  
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  
  To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
  
  • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
  • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
  • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
  • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
• Click Close to exit the program.
