The computer is completely messed up. If I go to a web page and then click on something on that page to go to another page it redirects me to an entirely different page. Also when I open up windows explorer I get this message that says "Warning!" "Some dangerous viruses detected in your system. Microsoft windows xp files corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of important files in C:\Windows. Download protection software now! Click ok to download the antispyware (recommended.... Yes No" If I click on NO it brings me to a Server Not Found Page and says firefox can't find the server at www.checksystem-online.com. If I click YES then a dialog box comes up that says: "File Download - Security Warning Do you want to run or save this file? Name: TotalSecure2009.exe
Type: Application 1.71 MB
From: 78.157.141.6
Then gives me the options of run/save/cancel. I cancel each time.

On top of these weird things, I use ultramon (for dual monitors) I've used it for years. Never had a problem. Now that is all whacked out - first of all the tool bar with the the start menu has always been on the left side and the smart bar continues to the right monitor (with no start button - not mirrored). Well now that is all screwed up - have tried uninstalling & reinstalling to no avail. I think my video drivers are messed up. I don't know. You guys have helped me before so I'm hoping you can, again. Last time I was running XP with SP 1 and I was told to use at least SP2. Well I tried that and this dell computer wouldn't allow it - so I had to take XP SP1 off entirely and I had to re-load the operating system that came with this computer (xp media something or other which is awful). So I am officially running SP2 now.

Here is a copy of my log - thanks, in advance

Hi mschroe919,

Thanks for responding so quickly. Ok, I made sure the files were not hidden and unchecked the hidden operating system files. Downloaded ATF and ran that. I already had Malwarebyte's on my computer - I made sure it was updated and ran a full system scan. Made sure they were all checked and selected remove. Rebooted so it could remove the 2 items it couldn't remove at first. The log is below:

Took the computer for a spin - tried windows explorer first since that was where I kept getting the warning about viruses and it kept me from opening anything up in explorer. I was able to open many things and I did NOT receive that warning message again. That is excellent news.

My home page is regular yahoo.com. It is much different than in the past. It is missing all the stuff that comes with normal yahoo.com. Instead I have a yellow box on it that says WHY MISS OUT.....PLEASE UPGRADE TO A MORE RECENT BROWSER...IE 7 OR FIREFOX 3. I am running IE 6 & Firefox 2.0. I've seen this message in the past but it was when I was having problems with my computer and you guys helped me - after everything was done, the yahoo page returned to normal so I am hoping that is the case this time.

The computer still runs slower than normal (I didn't mention that originally) but it is faster than it was before I ran the Malwarebytes. I tried a few websites but haven't been redirected so far - maybe that has been corrected as well.

I now am getting a lot of messages about DLLs having changed (I believe this is from sygate) but I just say ok and they go away. I would honestly say that this computer is running about 80% better since running the malwarebyte program!

Hi

Did you reboot after the scan and before you did the latest HJT log?

Can you do this and let me know the outcome:

Go to Tools, Manage Add-Ons and disable everything, then restart IE and see if it's acting better.

I had rebooted after the malwarebyte's scan because it couldn't get rid of 2 items unless I did.

I did go into add-ons in IE and disabled all of them - I'm not exactly a newbie but I didn't even know they were there. I would say that 99.9% of my time, I use firefox. I use IE only to access one website and that is on a daily basis however.

The computer is running better. As I mentioned I can go into WINDOWS EXPLORER and I don't get that message about viruses that makes explorer close.

Websites don't seem to be redirecting me any longer.

There is the problem with my home page (yahoo.com) which is not loading the way it normally does (instead I get that 1/4 page saying that I need to update my browsers (firefox & IE) but I don't have to because I have the same browswer versions on my laptop and another desktop and that works fine.

Computer is running much faster than prior to the malwarebyte scan (MUCH) but it is still running slower than when it was at its optimum.

Something is telling my task bar to appear on monitor #2 (which is the secondary monitor on the right). For as long as I have had 2 monitors the start button & task bar has always been on monitor #1 (which is the primary monitor on the left). I thought the problem was originally with ultramon but it doesn't appear to be that. I use True Launch Bar toolbar for SP2. But even took that off (before posting to you guys in the first place) but that didn't help.

Hi freddy440
Let me start off with first, I notice you are running AVG7. It is out of date, the new AVG is Ver8.

NEXT:
Make sure Internet Explorer isn't open

Run hijackthis again. Hit None of the above,
Click Do a System Scan Only.
Put a Check in the box on the left side on these: (Not to worry if not there)

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click Fix checked
Then reboot

NEXT:

reboot and post a HijackThis log and let me know how your PC is behaving.

Computer is now back up to the original speed in opening things - websites, programs etc... Much better. I will upgrade the AVG when we are done here!

The sygate/dll problem is gone - that was my error - when I re-installed I didn't change one of the options. So that is fine.

The only problems that seem to be left are the the following:

1) The home page is still not right. Not sure what that is all about but something is messed up. All the content from yahoo is missing because it says I have to upgrade my browsers but that doesn't make sense because my other computers all have yahoo.com fine and they are the same versions.

2) The task bar & Start Menu is still a problem - appearing on the wrong monitor but I guess I can live with that - it's just that in all the years I've had dual monitors that has never happened.

yahoo.com is still not loading right. The content is not there. It is 1/4 of a page with a yellow box telling me I have to upgrade my browsers. I have 3 other desktops and 2 laptops. They all have the same browser versions and Yahoo.com is fine on them.

I could change my homepage - I have done it many times but I would like to figure out what is wrong on this computer that will not allow yahoo.com to load correctly.

After my last post, my XoftspySE ran and found the Downloader Injecter UF trojan. I hit remove and rebooted. Ran XoftspySE again, and it came up again. Removed and rebooted again but it doesn't seem to have gotten rid of it. I have no idea how to remove it.

Hi freddy550,

Lets try this now:
(some viruses and trojans hide when HJT is brought up)

Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
Type in sniper.exe and press Enter
Right-click on sniper.exe
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
Copy and then paste the log in your post.
Even though we have renamed HijackThis to sniper, we will still refer to it as HijackThis or HJT
I will wait to I see your new log from your new location.
Good luck

Hi

QUOTE
After my last post, my XoftspySE ran and found the Downloader Injecter UF trojan. I hit remove and rebooted. Ran XoftspySE again, and it came up again. Removed and rebooted again but it doesn't seem to have gotten rid of it. I have no idea how to remove it.

Can you post a log from this?
I am wondering if it is picking it up because it is in a quaretine folder somewhere.
