Yes, its me again. pullhair.gif Catbyte, if your out there, i would REALLY appreciate your help once again. notworthy.gif
(no offense to any other Tech, but Catbyte has helped me alot this past month.)

I havent been using my PC much, been working ALOT these past few weeks. No one uses my PC when im gone anymore. This may have occured when installing some Custom game Mods for COD5. Here is whats going on. System hangs when trying to open my game folder in My Documents. Takes up to 3 mins sometimes to get the folder to open. Other times, it just freezes there, so i hit CTR ALT DEL to access Task Manager, and it shows My Docs is not responding. So i end it the proccess, which takes about 5 mins to get it to stop.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, that my Mcafee turns itself off. I only notice this when the bubble pops up telling me my computer is at risk, which takes a few minutes after the Virus scan has been turned off.

Here is my HJT log:

mooze - we really have to stop meeting like this laugh.gif

Please do the following:

Please download DDS from either of these links

LINK 1
LINK 2

and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.pif to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
---------------------------------------------------
Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt.

NEXT

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.

Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Hi,

Please do the following:

Your Java is out of date.
Java™ 6 Update 11 can be updated from the Java control panel Start > Control Panel (Classic View) > Java (looks like a coffee cup) > Update Tab > Update Now.
An update should begin; > follow the prompts.

Then go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs

a list of installed programs will populate

remove the following programs:

Java™ 6 Update 4
Java™ 6 Update 5
Java™ 6 Update 7

(leave version 6 update 14 in place - that is the most recent version)

Next:

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below (if still present):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {348FE907-249E-4C65-A838-F34A193FE1D1} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [wextract_cleanup0] rundll32.exe C:\windows\system32\advpack.dll,DelNodeRunDLL32 "C:\DOCUME~1\Mike\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\"
  • Close all windows except Hijackthis and click Fix Checked
  • Click Yes when prompted
  • Close HijackThis.

NEXT

Please download OTM by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please click OTM and then click >> run.
  • Copy the lines inside the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

CODE
:Processes
explorer.exe

:Files
C:\windows\\system32\drivers\TDSSmxjt.sys

:Reg
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet005\Services\TDSSserv]

:Commands
[purity]
[emptytemp]
[start explorer]
[Reboot]

  • Return to OTM, right click in the "Paste Instructions for items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTM

Note: If an item cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

NEXT

  • Please open your MalwareBytes AntiMalware Program
  • Click the Update Tab and search for updates
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- very important
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

You'd be doing yourself a favour to lose utorrent and Limewire. Most of the infections we see are brought in from peer2peer file sharing. You can't trust the source of the download.
You can uninstall them through Add/Remove programs.

Next

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky On-line Scanner

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

3. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take quite a long time to download.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

Well, Mcafee hasnt turned itself off at all today. Seems to be working normal. What could have caused McAfee to turn off, without any type of warning?

Here is HJT:

Hi,

Honestly, I have no idea as I have never used McAfee myself, if they have a support forum, you might want to ask them if this is a common issue, but your log is clean.

Run the OT clean up program.

Now to remove the rest of the tools that we have used in fixing your machine:
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Download OTC to your desktop and run it
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OTC to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

set a new restore point:

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points
We need to set a new system restore point:

Click Start > Run > copy and paste the following into the run box:

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next.
Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create,
when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Now remove all previous Restore Points:

Click Start > Run > copy and paste the following into the run box:

cleanmgr

At the top, click on More Options tab. Click the Clean up button in the System Restore box.
Click on the Yes button.
When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

consider this program

You may wish to try StartupLite. Simply download this tool to your desktop and run it. It will explain any optional auto-start programs on your system, and offer the option to stop these programs from starting at startup. This will result in fewer programs running when you boot your system, and should improve performance.

If that does not work, you can try the steps mentioned in Slow Computer/browser? Check Here First; It May Not Be Malware.

OK, all programs cleaned up, system retore point reset, and all others removed.
PC seems to be running fine again.
Catbyte, you are a geniuos, notworthy.gif Thanx once again, and come payday, i shall be making a Donation for all the help you you gave me. thumbup.gif I shall give up uTorrent, but not Limewire, as i use that to connect to my sister and dad and send them files and such. I dont DL anything from someone i dont know from Limewire.

My theory is, when playing COD5, some players made custom maps on their servers. The DL starts automatically when you click on their server to play. All these different file for COD5 start installing. Maybe one of them put s lil something extra. I dont know, just a theory. I am no longer going to servers i am not familiar with. I have enough Favs to satisfy my killing needs ;P

Once again, thanx for your help. wavey.gif
