Hi there. I bought my XPS 1530 laptop like 5 months ago from dell. Its brand new, high specs, paid over £1500 for it. But recently it has started to malfunction randomly. It is fully insured and i could send it back to them, but i have a lot of data on this so i wouldn't wana do that just yet.

I have posted on this website on 2 occasions in the past, about 2 different computers with many different problems and guys here helped me in the best way possible to get it fixed. And they were successful. Hence i come back here again smile.gif

So as i was saying, i bought this laptop back in january, it did a couple of odd things over first 4 months like the great blue screen kinda crash, not responding for about 5 minutes and so on and so forth. I saw those as one offs and ignored them. But then a couple of people who use my laptop once in a while started telling me my laptop has slowed down a lot, and i just thought they are jealous until i noticed it myself. My logic was i am installing new programs every now and then, so its gonna slow down a little. But now the problems are getting worse.

I recently installed Shock4way and what that does is gives ur desktop the cube effect, so u have 4 different desktops and u can switch between them and it just looks really cool. I do expect that to slow my system down, but i dont expect it to cause the system to not respond for 10 mins, process a click after 2 mins, and stuff like that. I did everything i should, installed malwarebytes, updated it. I scan my system every 2 days, with different antivirus softwares, and never have i found any viruses on this system. Also, i recently went and checked out one of the log files in PROBLEMS REPORTS AND SOLUTIONS and it layed out the history of troublesome events and so on and there was quite a few unexpected shutdowns, and million reports about COM SURROGATE not working. i dont know what's causing the odd behaviour on my system. So i turn to you. Hopefully u will see something i dont, and help me resolve this issue. Thanks for reading this. Heres my HijackThis logfile.

Hi excelserious,

welcome.gif

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Nothing obvious showing.

Open Notepad: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad.
Click on Format and ensure that Wordwrap is unchecked. If it isn't, uncheck it.

  • Please open HijackThis and run Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):
      R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
      O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)
      O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
      O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A057A204-BACC-4D26-9990-79A187E2698E} - (no file)
      O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {A057A204-BACC-4D26-9990-79A187E2698E} - (no file)
      O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [WindowsWelcomeCenter] rundll32.exe oobefldr.dll,ShowWelcomeCenter (User 'LOCALSERVICE')

  • Close all programs except for HijackThis.
  • Click on Fix checked
  • A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES.
  • Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.
