Not my computer but while trying to adjust desktop options, screen goes black. Icons appear without text. Has all tray icons, but menus do not appear. Right-cllicking desktop does not work. Cannot see IE, cannot surf for help. All attempts to start in safe mode or cmd failed. pullhair.gif

Hi SFASH and welcome.

You said,

What options?

This sounds like a "Windows" Explorer (not IE) problem. Enter Ctrl-Alt Del to enter Task Manager, then from the File menu, select New Task (Run). Browse to your Windows folder (typically c:\windows) and double click on explorer. This should restart Windows Explorer and recreate your desktop and hopefully you should be fine. My concern is you said this occurred while you were making adjustments. If Windows Explorer corruption occurred while the system was in the middle of saving changes, you may have to do a Repair install.
