I was deleting some of my programs and I came across this file "adssite browser optimizer" so I looked it up on google and I got a page in this site with an explination of what it was and how to get rid of it, however when I attempt to start the process I get a snag in it all. I went to uninstall it from my programs list and it says I have to enter a confrimation code to finish uninstall... I'm not sure what else to do so I joined up so I could get some helpful advise that wont kill my computer instead of finishing the previous instructions. If one of you could help me it would be greatly appreciated....

I just recently downloaded HJT onto my comp and I'm not too sure how to use it but I will attemp to post the log here to further help with the process...

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix, Vundofix, or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.

Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Also while I was trying to follow all of the instructions:
3. Click "Start"> "Run"> type in Regedit tap Enter Key

Make sure "My Computer" is highlighted

Click "Edit"> "Find"
Type in Adssite tap Enter Key.
Right Click on the file if found and select "Delete"

Tap the "F3" Key to find the next entry of the file. Continue using the "F3" Key until it's finished searching.

Close Regedit.

I wasn't able to open regedit, it keeps preforming an illegal operation so I had to skip this step.

My computer is rebooting a little faster after all of that and I don't get this error message anymore: Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\WILDTA~1\APPS\CDA\CDAENG~1.DLL

The system cannot find the path specified.

My internet is also running a little bit more smooth right now. Seems like things are going back to normal

"Note: Are you on a Novell Network?"
I got this computer for free from my old school and I've just added a few things to it but it won't let me change some of the settings on it and things like that so the answer to your question would be no. I also fear that if I remove it somehow it will mess with the preformance of my computer... so if you have some advice on what to do with it that would be nice.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vptray] c:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\vptray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NDPS] c:\windows\SYSTEM\dpmw32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Workstation Scheduler] C:\novell\client32\wm95.exe

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these Folders if listed:
C:\PROGRAM Files\WildTangent

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

My computer is rebooting at a quicker rate now than it was before and firefox isn't taking a lot of time to respond when I click on things any more... I also ran my diablo 2 game to see if the changes have affected it and the game runs a lot better now, I don't get really long lags when I'm in a game with a summons necro. The D2 server loads a lot faster and the game just runs smoother all together. Thank you!

I am a little concerned however, when I look at my HJT scan file because of these:

O2 - BHO: Megaupload Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-CCB0-B130EEDBE97C} - C:\PROGRA~1\MEGAUP~2\MEGAUP~1.DLL (file missing)

I'm not sure what it means when it says file missing... I also don't have any of these programs on my computer. What am I supposed to do about this? None of these programs are listed on my add/remove programs tool so I'm not sure how I can get rid of them...
