Hi need advise IV got an ACER 2304LCI with 1gig of memory.
About six months ago the mains input went wonky, wont charge was pushing it to one side for a week or two to get it to charge. In the end I got weary of this and sent it in for repair well two months later nothing done, no return of phone calls. So picked up notebook and unceremoniously placed it in a drawer where it has lain for the past 4 months.
In the meantime I purchased a Dell Inspiron 9400 1.66 duo with 2 gigs and forgot about the Acer.

My Question, is it worth it to repair the Acer and at what cost? Upgrade the ram to 2 gigs.

Greetings bisto:

Well not knowing where you are from, so I do not know in what currency to quote you for. So I will do it in US dollars and can give you at least a idea.

From what I can figure out, to replace this computer would be about $500.00 US. This is a quote I got for a refurbished unit from googling up your model.

That would be a starting point for you to see if it was worth while to persue a repair.

From your discription of the problem, sounds like a powerjack has failed or come loose. A repair would be roughly in the $125.00 US dollar range if you seek out a third party to do this vs sending to Acer for repair. Acer will charge several hundred US to do the same work. Dont forget shipping, handling, insurance.

Generally PowerJacks get damaged by having the powercord tripped over or pulled to the side forcefully. Manufacturers consider that customer induced damage and usually not covered by Manufactures as a defect on their part. They will charge a flat fee.

You can pickup 2 gigs of ram in the $100.00 US range. Installation fees are another matter. I have seen 30.00 US for that.

So a repair, ram, and installation with some shopping, est $250.00 US

Good luck

Kaz.
