Who says it's "better"?

Who can do more work? Two 180lb workers or one 200lb worker?

Keep in mine with your system, one core can be working on Windows stuff and the other core can be working on another program. With your brother's, the single core CPU must juggle both.

So even though his CPU may have a slightly faster clock rate, your CPU is definitely "better" - but, if you run programs that do not support multiple CPUs, you will not see much of an advantage - all else being equal (RAM, graphics, etc.). Fortunately, Windows does support multiple CPU cores so that alone boosts performance for OS tasks.

Bottom line, you got your brother beat.

The stupid question is the one not asked.

Well, you have twice the RAM and, according to HardwareZone, the X700 pulls ahead in most tests too. So it looks like you have bragging rights - if that is important.
